BEFORE - the stage is set
Painting individual pictures and designs
Pictures begin to merge together
Painting over previous paintings
Filling every white space
Adding, retouching, finding all the little white spaces
Each one wants to add his own touch
The finished product
The best part: While I love the final product, the process and the discussion are the best part of the activity. I heard about volcanos and deep holes. I heard about plans to cover every square inch of the paper. I heard kids making plans and carrying them out. I watched as dots appeared and disappeared under layers of color.
Our very wet painting is now drying. Next week we'll display the masterpiece for everyone to enjoy. In a few weeks, we'll recycle it by cutting it up and using it as part of a collage.
What a great story Scott!
ReplyDeleteDonna :) :)
Great post. I haven't done too many collaborative projects this year - I love this. Simple but full of learning opportunities.
ReplyDeleteI love this Scott - did you find that they stayed involved in the process any longer?
ReplyDeleteI love collaborative projects! Such a wonderful way for the children to work together in so many ways. Thanks for sharing!

The kids did stay with the activity for a long time. They also would work for a while, go do something else, and come back to work again. (Not all the kids, but several.)
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed watching how the ideas would flow among the children, building on the ideas of one another as they created.
Hello. This is a great idea; I remember doing this with 30 children and a huge banner-sized piece of black paper. We had the theme of 'Fireworks' to focus our pattern making. Great fun!
